I have truly met some of the most incredible people through the process of adopting our girls. One thing people who adopt have in common is they love people and they really love people who they can share their adoption with. I can talk about issues about my bio boys with any mom friends but to have a special adoptive mom who has BTDT with adoption and its issues is a gift. I have been gifted by many friends and many adoptive friends. The way I have connected with each of them is special and unique and they all add such value to my life. Some I am able to see just by running into them at the grocery store, some I drive a mere 40 minutes to see and some I have to fly all the way to IOWA!!
Through the process of waiting for Ellery I did what any waiting mom does and Iwasted spent hours a week on the Internet. Looking up blogs, seeing what current families wait times were to travel, watching child after child come home. Somewhere along the way I visited a blog that I would link you up to here but it is no longer in service. I periodically checked the blog, knew they were adopting but didn't pay any attention to her timeline. Then one day I was on her blog and she had posted their in China travel itinerary and a blurred copy of boarding passes. I looked at it for about two seconds before I realized we had nearly the exact same itinerary, our girls were from the same province. Well if you've been around long enough in bloggy land you know there are some blogs that are. dare I say , famous? To me this was one of them. My blog was not and is not "famous" (nor do I want it to be). I reached out to her not knowing what her the reaction might be. I have done that before to another "famous" blog and it went no where. Thankfully she did respond back and we exchanged emails and eventually decided we would meet in the Hong Kong Airport. And meet in the airport we did.
We flew to Nanning together and then went our separate ways, we were staying at different hotels.
Throughout the time in China we honestly did not spend very much time together. We were with different agencies so on different schedules and excursions but we did see them some everyday. The truth is I just really liked her. She was someone I knew I would be great friends with if we lived in the same town. The last time we saw each other was during an exhausting layover in Chicago (5-6 hours) after a reaaaallllyyyy long flight home from China (thankfully on the same plane). She went home to Iowa and I went home to South Carolina.
I honestly didn't know if we would keep in touch, I am horrible at keeping in touch with people long distance. Thankfully she and I kept in touch just enough to begin to develop a friendship. You know those people that you love being around because they are fun and warm and nice and share so many of your beliefs and thoughts, that was her. We wanted to see each other again and reunite our girls but Iowa and SC are not so close ya know. Then my hubby surprised me with tickets for Ellery and I to go see them in September. I was so super excited!!
On September 9th Ellery and I arrived in Iowa and met our friends Sara and Ruby at the airport. It brought tears to my eyes to see them again and our girls instantly grabbed each others hands. Boy have they changed...

In China
While we visited the mommas had lots and lots of time to talk.
And we enjoyed laughter and good times.
I included this awful picture of me just to show how much fun I had in the corn pool.
I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Just in case you are wondering it is not easy to run across this corn pool but who knew it could be so much fun to play in.
I mean how could you not have fun in this...
We also took lots of photos of the girls. They were good sports most of the time.
And they both have these incredibly adorable dimples.
But sometimes they just weren't into it but that actually produced some cute pictures.
And sometimes they just acted silly.
But we walked away with a few gems I am trying to edit.
Loved this sweet moment.
Doesn't this picture just need a dunce hat and it would be perfect!
I am so grateful we were able to make the trip to Iowa and spent time with this awesome family.
We created a bond I hope will last a lifetime (and actually beyond!!)
Sara,
Just want to publicly say Thank You again for making us feel so welcome in your home.
We had a blast and can't wait to see y'all again and share some BOLD peanuts!
Love,
J&E

If you missed the story behind Lily and Jia you may want to visit here first to catch up.
At first they did not know how to act toward each other. Lily was very quiet and reserved, not saying much at all. They just checked each other out. It was so awesome.
It didn't take long and they were running off by themselves away from the watchful and expectant stares of their moms.
After some time talking we took them to the park to warm up. Lily at this point is still not saying hardly a word. I felt like it was because of me. She is always watching me to see if she is pleasing me. I don't know why. I was dying for them to see the same vivacious, silly and happy girl I live with.
And after the park I left. I really didn't want to. I felt like I could have sat and talked with Jia's mom
all night but I had made plans weeks before to be somewhere else that night and it just happened to be in the same town they were visiting. They drove me to meet my friends we had drove up with and it felt so odd to leave her there but I was hopeful without me around she would liven up and they would have fun.

Surprisingly there are still some of you out there checking my blog for an update, I just can't seem to find motivation or the time. Having 6 kids home all summer and trying to work part time have kept me so busy and when I do have a few moments to myself I want to relax and do something mindless like watch Big Bang Theory my absolute latest guilty pleasure. That show is so funny and I love it!
We are doing so great and are entering our busy season of school, many birthdays, marching band and trying out (for the first time ever) 4 kids playing a sport at the same time. I may be living on the soccer field this fall.
Noah turned 15 yesterday and right this moment is taking his test for his permit. In some ways I am scared to death of him driving and in others I am so ready! He is ready and of course thinks he already knows everything. I heard a discussion between him and his dad going out the door that no he could not drive home. This boy has never been behind the wheel of a car, anywhere. He has driven our golf cart and didn't exactly do very well with that. I see driving lessons in our very near future!
This year Noah starts 10th, Sellers will be in 6th, Lily in 3rd, Wyatt in 2nd and my baby boy Mason starts kindergarten. Ellery will be home schooled preschool this year by me and my mother in law.
She is just too all over the developmental spectrum to do a school preschool right now. We will try next year. We are going to try a Biblical based curriculum called Bright Beginnings. It was highly recommended to my by one of the instructors that teaches for me. I will let you know how it goes.
I am so excited that I will be attending the Created For Care Retreat at Lake Lanier in March with 4 friends. Two moms who have long been an inspiration to me and have been to China 7 times between them and then my best friend who is in process of her home study and Dossier now. The fifth person I have not met but I know we will be blessed to have this time of fellowship as adoption moms. One friend and I are seriously looking into doing one of their mini retreats next year, I'll keep you posted.
I am still working to develop the Orphan Ministry at our church and it is coming slowly together, thank goodness I have a team member keeping me going! It is a lot to work.
I also cannot believe that I am going on September 9th to visit my sweet friend Sara. Sara and I met in China when we traveled last year for our girls. We had not known each other before hand (though I had read her blog) and were with different agencies but had almost the same exact travel plans. Our girls are both from the same Province. Anyway, even though Sara and I were both busy with 2.5 year olds in China and our husbands, we bonded enough that we have kept in touch. She is one of those people you just love right away for so many reasons. We have tried to throw together some plans since then to see each other but we live pretty far apart, either a plane ride or Looooong car ride are necessary. In July my husband surprised my with tickets for Ellery and I to visit her and her family.
I just cannot wait!!
Now for some pictures....

Now for some pictures....
In July John and I went to Montana for my brothers wedding.
It was a beautiful place, one I could see myself living in.
On our way to Glacier National Park we saw a lot of these yellow fields.
John and I at Glacier National Park, truly magnificent.
My brother and sister-in-law to be.
My contribution to the wedding, a Wedding Wishes Tree.

My whole family minus my kids...

Today John and I celebrate our 17th Wedding Anniversary.
It was one of the happiest days of my life and I truly felt like
the luckiest girl alive that day.
My parents gave me a beautiful wedding and set a wonderful example
of marriage, they just celebrated 46 years on July 2nd.
And thankfully I married a man who also had a wonderful example for him, his parents will
also be celebrating 46 years this November.
It is easier to make it through those marital valleys when you have examples
to see how rewarding a long, faithful marriage can be.
I am thankful John is one of those people that just has always seen
marriage as forever because there have been times I have
not been so easy to be married to!
This life has given me more than I ever could have imagined.
God has blessed us in many ways and I am so thankful.
Happy Anniversary to the man who is (as he is every night)
snoring peacefully beside me.
I LOVE YOU.

Almost two months since my last post and so much has been keeping us busy. The end of the school year for one and then we left the day after school let out for a week long vacation, then my big boys headed off to Boy Scout Camp. We celebrated Wyatt's Birthday and Ellery has been home now SEVEN months!!! I cannot believe that. And....the two children my friend and I were advocating for and raising money found a family, very quick. Like only days after our posts. How awesome is that??
First an update on our little Scooter Bug (just one of my nick names for her). Ellery is overall doing just great. She is such a mommy's girl and I love it. She and Lily are usually within 2 feet of me at all times if possible unless something fun is happening somewhere else.
This look is one she makes often, it is so her.

- Her language has exploded but I foresee speech therapy in our future. She has a lot of problems pronouncing several sounds but especially the F and P sounds. Time will tell though I will probably have her evaluated soon for early intervention since it's a free service around here.
- Her favorite saying is, "what happened?". She says it 100 times a day. She has to be in the know and when she doesn't understand what is going on she will say it.
- She is still sleeping in a crib and I rock her to bed every night. I don't foresee this routine ending anytime soon.
- This girl loves to swim. She has taken to water and I am so excited at how well she is doing. Today we are going to get water wings because she has grown out of the tube thingy she was swimming with. She needs something she can swim with not just float becuase she is moving her arms and putting her face down in the water.
- On June 25 she told me she loved me after I came home from work while hugging me for the first time. That is such a special time that first time they tell you and you know it is not just something they are saying but something they are feeling.
- She has grown a lot as well as her hair and she had her first haircut the end of June. As John put it her hair was looking kind of scraggly and since she pulls out bows and ponytails a lot we needed to clean it up. It looks cute, now we are going to grow, grow grow it out!!
These are two undedited pics I took while we escaped to Kiawah Island with daddy while he had a conference. Love those free working vacations.
OTHER HAPPENINGS.....
Ellery at the zoo feeding the birds.
Ellery turned three on April 27th. I never posted any pictures but we had a small family party and
we choose Minnie Mouse whom she loves!
The Joy on her face while we sang Happy Birthday to her brought tears to my eyes.
She was so excited.
Mom and Ellery at the mall. Ellery was in a fashion show put on by my hospital for our annual
Baby Fair. She did perfect and wasn't scared at all. I have a video of it I may post later.
On Mother's Day we had our girls dedicated at church. A very special Mothers Day for me.
Mason graduated from Preschool. He is so ready to go to big boy school next year.
He will go to the same school as Lily and Wyatt.
Wyatt ended the school year sick. We had a yucky virus the last week of school.
Bobo worked hard all year for the 100 book club and read over 200 books but her missed the recognition assembly and party because he was home sick. We were so proud of him!
Sellers celebrated his last day in elementary school with a 5th Grade recognition ceremony and pool party.
He is ready for Middle School, but am I?
Noah and Sellers on family night at Boy Scout Camp.
Noah's Band After Dawn playing at a local restaraunt.
Ellery and Mason at the pool.
Ellery getting her first haircut since home.
Noah has dreamed of making Quads in the LHS Band for a year.
He auditioned for several weeks and found out just before school got out that he made it.
Now we can't wait for football season. So proud of him.
THE OCAIN CREW GOES TO ARIZONA
On June 5th we traveled to Arizona to visit my baby brother, his fiance and to see some great sites.
The Grand Canyon was spectacular but being scared of heights and falling it left me a nervous wreck. As you can see there is nothing to stop you from falling into the canyon so keeping an eye on 6 kids was nerve wracking on John and I. Here are all the kids sitting with Brian and Brenda looking over the Canyon. I couldn't stand it so after I took this picture I stepped back, way back.
This is a picture of the Wigwam Motel on Historic Route 66. It was set up with cars like in the Cars movie. Very nostalgic. I think it is sad that more of Route 66 hasn't survived.
THE BOYS in Sedona, Arizona.
We had a blast visiting Winslow, Arizona!
My brother lives in Flagstaff which was very convenient to so many sights.
We went sightseeing during the day while they worked and then hung out with them at night.
This is only a small part of all we did. We also went to Meteor Crater, The Petrified Forest, to the top of the San Fransisco Peaks, and went to Slide Rock.
A very memorable vacation indeed!!
Thanks to B+B for putting up with us for a week!
That should catch you up, I will try not to wait so long until my next post. And I have put going private on hold for now.

Leiney Grace
Leiney Grace and Mei Mei
Chances are if you are reading this, your life somehow has been touched by adoption or you are curious about adoption.
This story is about chances. Leiney Grace is my friend Jan's daughter. Jan's family was already very full with seven children before they brought home Leiney Grace in February.
She has been a blessing to this family beyond their imagination, grateful that
when God called them back to China they listened.
when God called them back to China they listened.
When one adopts an older child the child brings with them memories of deep and true
friendships. The children have often lived together for years and are extremely close.
These children are each others family while in the orphanages. They share beds, they eat together, they play together, they go to school together. It must be so hard for the child left behind,
not adopted and knowing they may never have a family.
not adopted and knowing they may never have a family.
Leiney Grace came home attached to her Mei Mei and Di Di.
While she was overjoyed to have her very own family she missed her Mei Mei and Di Di very much.
Leiney Grace's mom started to feel called to do something to help them.
Leiney Grace's mom started to feel called to do something to help them.
Leiney Grace's mom began to do research. Their orphanage didn't participate in international adoption so she was going to work to get their files moved to an orphanage that did, like Leiney Grace's.
What were the chances that not only would she be able to locate their files but they were already on the waiting child list?
The bad news? Mei Mei has been on the list for a very, very long time.
The chances of her being matched with a family now is slim.
Jan would love to bring Mei Mei home to join her family but at this time cannot.
But Jan did not want to sit idle and do nothing, she vowed to do something.
That is where I came into the picture. I too was captured by Mei Mei's story, her
adorable smile and heart broken thinking of her walking on deformed and broken feet.
So together we formed Moms on a Mission and decided
to do something.
Together we plan to have fundraisers to be able to offer Mei Mei's prospective
family a grant. Hoping and Praying that even though the chance is slim,
someone will step out in faith and give Mei Mei the chance she deserves.
The chance to walk pain free, the chance to run, the chance to be loved unconditionally, the chance to
have a family, the chance to live.
We want to help give her that chance.
