When Lily was living in the Zhuhai SWI she had a very good friend named Jian Hong. Lily has a lot of pictures and talked about her all the time when she first came home. Time passed and Lily made new friends but the memories and faces of her friends from Zhuhai were forever etched in her memory. One day I was browsing blogs and ended up on a blog that was advocating for children waiting to be matched with families. While scrolling through the blog I saw a picture that looked familiar, I knew that playground. I saved the link to the picture and waited for Lily to get home to show her the picture.

Later that night I remembered the picture and showed it to Lily. I asked her did she recognize the child in the picture and the biggest smile came across her face. Very matter of fact she said, " yes, that is Zhu Jian Hong". Well I knew that name very well because Lily had talked about her so much. She got all excited and ran upstairs and got her scrapbook of pictures from her days in Zhuhai. She flipped right to a page and sure enough it was her. She even had on the same outfit that she had on in Lily's picture. I have heard of families learning about their daughters best friends adoptions and I couldn't believe I had stumbled (ok, I truly give God the credit here) upon this picture. Without it I have no doubt I may never have discovered that Jian Hong was listed for adoption here in the US. The next day I contacted the agency that had Jian's file and requested the status.I explained to them that this was my daughters best friend in China and I was told there was a family reviewing the file that was very serious and that they were to decide soon. The agency was so nice when I asked her to please pass along my contact information to the family in hopes that they would contact me or let me know if the family had decided not to proceed with her adoption. The next Monday the agency let me know that YES the family was proceeding with the adoption and they would pass along my information. I anxiously waited for them to contact me. Very shortly the mom did. We began contact and have been in close contact every since. Jian Hong is being adopted into an amazing family.

Jian Hong met her mom and dad the day after Christmas. She will be living close enough to Lily that we can see each other without it being a huge ordeal. Lily cannot wait for the day she can be reunited with her friend again. And I cannot wait to meet her sweet momma. Jian Hongs mom is blogging here about their trip to China. Check it out Jian Hong is beautiful and they are doing well.

Lily and Jian Hong

"An invisible red thread connects those who are destined to meet, regardless of time, place, or circumstance. The thread may stretch or tangle, but will never break." --An ancient Chinese belief"

These two girls were destined to meet not once in their lifetime but twice. The thread may have gotten very tangled at one time but God untangled it and brought these two families together.

One month ago today we were handed a little girl that was scared out of her mind....

Today we are so in love we cannot imagine life without her....

There are days when I am holding her and I look in her eyes and I feel so BLESSED to be her mama.
We are making big steps of progress but we still have a ways to go on this journey.
A journey of love.

We love you baby girl.

Merry Christmas from The O'Cain Crew!!

She is wearing a bow for about 30 minutes! (or less)
Progress people, progress!
I'm tired of people asking me if she is a boy.
I love hairbows and want her to wear one so bad.

She sat through Jie Jie's dance recital without making a sound.

She is loving on her family, doling out hugs and kisses.

She is not afraid of the dog pile!

She's dancing to Christmas music with mama.

She is learning to play the tambourine. Hey, maybe we can form
The O'Cain Crew Singers...

She is loving being held up in the air by Big Brother.

She is taking an interest in chores already???
I like that.
Mason and Lily are teaching her how to put up the silverware.

At least chores seem like fun for now.

She is discovering the joy of a leaf pile.

She laughed so hard while playing in the leaves.

She enjoyed an ice cream on the way home.

Playing Peek a Boo in the stroller.

So Loved.
See all the hands just waiting to touch her.
They simply adore her.

We all do.

(Trying to keep Ellery's world small at this time of the year is a little hard. We've had to attend  Lily's Dance Recital, Sellers Christmas Concert and Mason's preschool program. She attended all three and overall did extremely well, I just can't leave her yet so we are taking her along. Otherwise we are staying home and she is doing well. She has captured the heart of those that have met her and  her siblings run in the door, right past me, to find her. They love playing with her and our weather has been so nice they have been able to spend time outdoors. She is such a joy to us, how could we have ever lived without all the laughter, love and smiles she has given us. She just fits us so perfectly.)

Our trip home was pretty smooth just exhausting. We were so fortunate to fly home from Hong Kong with about 7 other families with newly adopted Chinese children. It made it more fun and went by a little faster. We flew into a city about an hour and a half from home so our family had to make the Friday night trip up to meet us. We got there a few minutes before they did but boy were we glad to see them!

I cannot tell you the relief of arriving home after 24 hours of travel.
Ellery became a US Citizen today!

Finally the long awaited reunion with our family.
Don't you love how we packed so lightly.

Meeting my grandparents...

The center of attention, all her siblings fell instantly in love!

This is the moment it sunk in that we have 6 kids!!!
Having them all together was wonderful.

Don't you love big brothers expression?

Our First Family Photo all together finally.

And a very special Thank you to my friend Sharon for taking all the photos.
You know how priceless it is to have these but I cannot believe we didn't get a
picture together.

We really enjoyed visiting Hong Kong Disney, if you are going through Hong Kong to China I recommend it. We worried about taking her but honestly it was less stressful and more fun than many of the sightseeing tours we have been on in China planned by our agency.

It was very similar to Disney World on a smaller scale but had the coolest Toy Story Land my kids would be gaga over. It wasn't overly crowded but boy did we get the stares. It is so funny watching people do a double take when they look at us and then her and then back at us.

The Entrance with Daddy

The Castle with Mama

Ellery loves her snacks and they had the yummiest caramel corn.

The Chinese love their corn. This was one of the most popular kids snacks at Disney.
Something tells me this wouldn't fly here in America.

For Sara! :0)

Slinky Dog ride.

 Disney Creativity Rules!

My first attempt at a funny face.

My little Chinese Pixie.

It's snowing!!

Surrounded by mountains.

Everywhere we looked this is how people were posing for pictures.
Apparently this is the in thing in Hong Kong, kind of like the peace sign in China.

We went by train to Hong Kong on Wednesday afternoon (making our train with just 15 minutes to spare, whew) and enjoyed a train ride through China. China has one of the most unique landscapes to watch (not that I've really been anywhere else but still just amazing to look at). In one view you can see dozens of brand new high rise apartment buildings and just below them farmers tending their crops and appearing to have never entered the modern age.

Arriving in Hong Kong made us feel like we are getting closer to home and we are ready. Hotel living is not a glamorous life and essentially that is where we have spent most of our time. Luckily the hotel we have stayed in have been superb! We are so ready to get home and figure out our new normal and I just cannot wait for The O'Cain Crew to meet our newest member. God new this silly, crazy little girl was perfect for us, she is going to fit right in.

Today we had the chance to check out Hong Kong Disney and it was great. I will post pictures once we are home but tonight I am whooped and going to bed. Ellery did great and we just took it easy and enjoyed walking around. We did hit a few rides though and her favorite just like mama is It's a Small World! I love that ride.

Next post will be from home!! Can't promise when it will be though. Please pray for safe travels and for me to be able to handle the stress thrown my way. I have never traveled across the world with a 2 yr old.( Thank goodness for the Ergo, thanks Sharon!!)

The Western Potty
Thank goodness the norm in America but rare here in China except in our hotel.
Will never take for granted this or toilet paper again.

The Squatty Potty

Very popular around the world and all you will see in public here in China.
Somehow I managed to never use one
on our first trip to China. Tried to avoid at all costs this time but after eating pizza
out one night, I just could.not.wait. (get my drift). and guess what??
Didn't realize they also don't have toilet paper.
So here I am holding a two yr old, using a squatty potty in a steaming hot mall and then realize I am screwed.
Couldn't get back to the hotel fast enough.
SO....ALWAYS have tissue in your pocket, you never know when you will need it!

The Training Potty

We met Ellery on Monday at 2:30. We are told she is completely independent using the bathroom
and we were very excited about that.
Took her to the bathroom several times and she never did anything. Stayed dry all night and still nothing the next morning. Of course then my mind kicks into worst case scenario mode and I am thinking she has a blockage and can't pee. The next morning I mention it to our guide. She says probably ok maybe she is scared of Western Toilet. How can a 2 yr old hold her pee this long???
So we go to the official Adoption Ceremony the next day, the guide takes us to the squatty potty and shows me how to help her, still she does nothing. At this point she has held her pee for at least 20 hours, this can't be good for her. Right before we are about to leave she asks the Orphanage Director to take her to the bathroom. We all follow along, he does the same thing but then starts saying
shh, shh, shh and lo and behold she pees!!
Nobody ever thought to tell me that she is trained to pee when someone says shh, shh, shh.
AMAZING and works every time.
We almost have her trained to go without it.
Now we just gotta get this #2 thing down.
Her "scheduled" poop time is 8.
Not working for us.

December 6, 2011
Cannot believe it but our time here is wrapping up,today we had our Consulate Appointment, finished up a little shopping and then went to a Christmas Tree Lighting. It was a beautiful Lighting and the Children's choir was amazing!! John was interviewed by a local TV station afterwards thanks to our guides. ;)

There are no exciting pictures of the day so I will just include some from the last few days I haven't posted yet.

We have had pizza four times while in China and
McDonald's five times.
Have gone out to eat Chinese zero.

Red Couch Outtake.

Yep, they ended up in pieces.

Determined to put these on by herself.
Now what do I do with this?

Not going to attempt to explain this photo but we surely enjoyed
spending time with this family over the last 10 days. Sure wish they didn't live
so far away.

Crazy girl, she had her hat on backwards and such a silly expression.
